Teaming up with the owner-architect, DTLA developed a landscape master plan and design that pays homage to the elongated horizontal planes of the home’s mid-century modern architecture while encouraging indoor-outdoor flow.
We took on the challenge of a steep hillside property, creating a modern oasis of tiered gardens and gathering areas. The sleek design of the outdoor lounge features an inviting fireplace and seatwall of subtly contrasting colors; a custom water feature adds a sophisticated tranquility. The clean lines of the retaining walls define areas while encouraging movement from one space to another. An edible garden provides bursts of home-grown flavor for the grill as well as seasonal color. Locally-sourced stacked stone walls edging the infinity lawn and terraces add visual texture to the sweeping modern lines of the home and hardscape. The finished exterior spaces harmonizes with the architecture and provides the family with usable outdoor spaces.
