This new Mediterranean-style home is imbued with an Old World permanence that is made possible through the client’s commitment to the enduring materials and finishes present throughout the landscape.
Color, stone and movement inspired the design. Rich, warm hues of terra cotta, burnt orange, and apricot evoke the brilliance and heat of the Mediterranean sun. The plant choices reflect a similar color palette and includes California native plants and other drought-tolerant species. Each plant was selected to complement the bold lines of the house architecture and to create a striking interplay of texture, shape, and foliage color. Even the shade pergola off the family room was milled from a redwood cut down on site, further contributing to sense of legacy of the outside space.
The client’s desire was to create an inviting, comfortable family space for entertaining of all kinds. We included a patio specifically designed for the outdoor pool table and an inviting sitting area with a focal point fireplace. Lights twinkling on the hillside above beckon one to explore the upper, more private path, rewarding the visitor with a wonderful panoramic view of the garden below.
