Our clients’ love of vibrant color directed the landscape renovation of this California/ Mediterranean-style, hillside home. In keeping with the architecture, the design incorporates bold landscape vignettes elegantly linked by custom masonry, wrought iron details, and the colorful planting palette. Each element is designed to create a sense of place into the experience of moving through the estate. An arching iron entry gate and a profusion of roses welcomes visitors at the front of the property. The winding stone path passes through a shady glen amidst lush roses before touching down at the bluestone patio and house. A covered veranda adjacent to the grand living room provides views toward the lawn and curving pool. Neighboring another wing of the house, a runnel cuts through the grassy lawn, ending in a small fountain that reveals itself as a waterfall from a terrace below. Stone stairs built into the steep site provide access to landings with different programming: bocce and sports; a secluded studio; a bench surrounded by flowers; vegetable and cutting gardens.
